Good Morning Folks!
Words of refreshment from Jesus to begin our thoughts today: Matthew 11:28-30 The Message (MSG)
28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Here are five steps to avoid complacency once you’ve achieved your dream goal. (LAST TIME YOU WILL SEE THIS LIST IN MY EMAILS)
- Start every day from scratch. Sustainable excellence is about getting better every day. …
- Surround yourself with people who will tell you like it is. …
- Focus on process instead of outcome. …
- Continuously learn and adapt. …
- Recharge the batteries.
Here are five steps to avoid complacency once you’ve achieved your dream goal.
5. Recharge the batteries.
Successful people are extremely driven. They do not work a 9-to-5 day and often go for long periods of time without what most people would call “work-life balance.” This is necessary for life at the top. But in order to avoid complacency you must build in time for rest, relaxation, hobbies, reflection and quality time with family and friends. This is what gives you the energy to continue to compete, innovate and succeed. Otherwise you become the proverbial hamster in the wheel. The wheel — or the hamster — ultimately breaks down.
Excellence does not have to turn into complacence. Accept the challenge to stay on top once you get there!
We come to the close of the list to avoid complacency with a pivotal truth: REST! Our bodies do not handle going 100 mile per hour in any environment for a sustained period of time. When rest for our bodies, soul, or spirit are ignored, then every area begins to show signs of wear and breakdown. In this digital age, our minds typically consume way more information/data than the previous generations or eras combined, leading to a real need for more physical sleep to keep our brain matter restored. Any pain we feel is a direct indicator that something is not in balance. In a driven and draining world, the weariness of attempting to keep up with others will eventually crush the soul and body if our spirits are not in direct connection with the Giver of Life(Abba). We deal with families everyday that lost someone who gave up living for multiple reasons, no matter what age. The act of choosing to utilize our time wisely to ensure full health in every part of our life is key to realizing the unforced rhythyms of grace that Jesus speaks of in Matthew 11. What do you do for real rest? Please meditate on what allows you the passion to serve hurting people each day in the funeral profession. Our hearts strongly desire that each team member in every location recognizes the need for true rest and quality time with people who love and support you each day in this crazy beautiful world. Here is a favorite from Isaiah chapter 26 ESV:
In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
“We have a strong city;
he sets up salvation
as walls and bulwarks.
2 Open the gates,
that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in.
3 You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
